Kapa Nui Aotearoa is New Zealand’s premier Cook Islands dance competition, bringing together Cook Islands cultural groups from across Aotearoa to celebrate the richness of our heritage through dance, music, language, and storytelling.
The competition recognises the incredible dedication of dance groups that have spent years, many for more than a decade, preserving and promoting Cook Islands culture within their communities. These groups perform at cultural festivals, community events, birthdays, weddings, celebrations, and special occasions, sharing the traditions of our ancestors while inspiring the next generation to embrace their identity.
Kapa Nui Aotearoa provides a platform for these groups to showcase their talent, creativity, and cultural excellence as they proudly represent their dance group. More than a competition, it is a celebration of the countless volunteers, leaders, choreographers, musicians, and families who work tirelessly to keep Cook Islands language, dance, music, and customs alive in Aotearoa.
